The short version

Who we are

Dead to Vic is a live party game run by an independent developer in the United States. When this policy says “we” or “us”, it means the people running the game. Questions or requests go to [email protected].

Adults only

You must be 18 or older to play, and you confirm that before joining. The game is not meant for children and we don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a child has played, email us and we’ll delete anything we hold about them.

What we collect

What Why How long
The show transcript: the name you type in, your catchphrase, what you type and tap (answers, pleas, whispers, votes, bets and reactions), what Vic and his guests say, how Vic rated each answer, and how the show ended To run your show, fix problems, make the game better, and train AI models (including the ones that write and judge for Vic). Until you ask us to delete it.
Your mugshot, if you take one Shown to the room and read by an AI so Vic can roast it. We shrink it and strip the photo’s hidden details (such as where it was taken) on your phone before it’s sent. We save the AI’s short written description of it in the transcript, not the photo. Until your room closes. The photo is never saved to disk.
Connection details: your IP address, rough location (country, region and city, as estimated by our network provider), a device label such as “iPhone Safari”, the room code, your name and the time To keep the game secure, stop abuse, fix problems, and know who played in which show. Saved with the show transcript until you ask us to delete it. A separate log of every connection is deleted after 30 days.
If you host: your account email (and your name and picture if you sign in with Google), what games you bought or were given and when, and how many you’ve used. If you’re signed in when you join or host a show, your account email is saved with that show. To sign you in, keep your games with your account on any phone, help if something goes wrong with a purchase, know who hosted each show, and keep the records the law requires for sales. Until you ask us to delete your account. Purchase records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require.

Players who join a show don’t give an email, phone number, contacts or payment details. Only hosts sign in. A host who buys games pays on Stripe’s page; we never see or store card numbers. We don’t use your photo to identify you, and we don’t create a face print or any other biometric record from it.

How we use show transcripts

We read transcripts to see what’s funny, what confuses people and what breaks, so we can make the game better. We may also use them to train or fine-tune AI models, for example so Vic writes better jokes and judges answers more fairly. We don’t publish transcripts, we don’t sell them, and we don’t share them with anyone except the service providers listed below.

Who sees it

Other players in your room. They see your name, your mugshot, your catchphrase, your reactions and many of your answers, and they hear Vic read and talk about them. Please don’t type anything you wouldn’t say out loud to the group.

AI services that power Vic. To write and voice the show we send parts of it to:

Resend sends the sign-in codes we email to hosts, so it receives your email address. Google, if you choose to sign in with it, tells us your email, name and picture.

Stripe, if you buy games. Stripe runs the checkout page, takes your payment details and sends us your email and what you bought. Stripe handles your payment under its own privacy policy.

These companies process the data to give us their service, under their own terms and privacy policies. Some may keep it for a limited time, for example to monitor for abuse.

Companies that keep the site running. Our network provider (Cloudflare) carries traffic to and from the game, and our hosting provider runs the server and stores its data. Fonts are served from this site.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect players, the game or others from harm.

We don’t sell your information and we don’t share it for advertising. There are no ads, analytics or tracking tools in the game.

On your device

The game stores a few small things in your browser so it works smoothly:

If you sign in to host, a cookie keeps you signed in on that browser (for up to 90 days, or until you sign out). You can clear all of this in your browser settings at any time.

How we protect it

Connections to the game are encrypted. Transcripts and connection records are stored on our server in files only the server can read, and our service keys are kept in the server’s private settings. No system is perfectly secure, but we take care with what we keep.

Your choices and rights

The game is run from the United States. If you play from elsewhere, your information is handled in the United States.

Changes

If we change how we handle your information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
